‘Cowboy Bebop’: John Cho, Mustafa Shakir, Daniella Pineda & Alex Hassell To Star In Netflix Series

Daniella has landed the role of Faye Valentine in Netflix’s live-action adaption of “Cowboy Bebop”. Congratulations Daniella! Daniella is going to nail this role. I cannot wait for this series to come out!

John Cho (Star Trek, Searching), Mustafa Shakir (Marvel’s Luke Cage), Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom; What/If) and Alex Hassell (The Miniaturist; Suburbicon) are set as leads in Cowboy Bebop, a live-action adaptation of the cult Japanese animated series.

The space Western hails from Tomorrow Studios, Marty Adelstein’s joint venture with ITV Studios; Midnight Radio (Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg); writer Chris Yost (Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok); and Sunrise, the studio behind the original series. In addition, Alex Garcia Lopez (The Witcher; Marvel’s Daredevil and The Punisher) will direct the first two episodes.

Written and executive produced by Yost, Cowboy Bebop is the jazz-inspired, genre-bending story of a ragtag crew of bounty hunters on the run from their pasts as they hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals. They’ll even save the world — for the right price.

Cho is Spike Spiegel, an impossibly cool “cowboy” (bounty hunter) with a deadly smile, a wry wit and style to spare. He travels the solar system with his ex-cop partner pursuing the future’s most dangerous bounties with a combination of charm, charisma and deadly Jeet Kune Do.

Shakir is Jet Black, one of the few honest cops in the solar system before an ultimate betrayal robbed him of all that he loved, forcing him into a vagabond life of hunting bounties to put food on the table. Jet is an inveterate jazz enthusiast, Spike’s partner and captain of the Bebop.

Pineda is Faye Valentine, a bold, brash and unpredictable bounty hunter. Suffering from amnesia after years of being cryogenically frozen, Faye does whatever it takes to survive — whether she’s lying, stealing or just being a thorn in Spike and Jet’s side.

Hassell is Vicious, a man who thoroughly enjoys a good kill, He is the Syndicate’s most notorious hitman and also Spike’s ex-partner and archenemy.

Cowboy Bebop is co-produced by Netflix and Tomorrow Studios. Netflix will handle physical production. Midnight Radio’s (Limetown, High Fidelity, Knightfall) Appelbaum, Nemec, Pinkner, and Rosenberg executive produce and co-showrun. Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios (Snowpiercer, Hanna) also executive produce with Yasuo Miyakawa, Masayuki Ozak and Shin Sasaki of Sunrise Inc; Tetsu Fujimura and Matthew Weinberg. Shinichiro Watanabe (director of the original anime) serves as consultant.

Cho is repped by UTA, 3 Arts Entertainment and Morris Yorn. Shakir is repped by The Gersh Agency, Robyn Bluestone Management and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham. Pineda is repped by Kirsten Ames Management, UTA and Just Day attorney Isaac Dunham. Hassell, soon to star in Netflix film The Red Sea Diving Resort, is repped by Magnolia Entertainment, The Gersh Agency and United Agents.

Daniella Pineda Joins Netflix’s ‘What/If’

The ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ grad will be a series regular in the Renee Zellweger anthology.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s Daniella Pineda is Netflix-bound.

The actress has booked a series-regular role in What/If, the anthology drama starring Renee Zellweger.

The 10-episode What/If is described as a social thriller exploring the ripple effects when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things. The first season revolves around newlyweds who accept a dangerous proposition.

Pineda will play Cassidy, an analytical, conscientious and work-obsessed employee of Bioprint since its inception. As the CFO, she’s the left brain to Lisa’s (Jane Levy) right brain. Cassidy is the kind of woman who does the right thing, even when no one’s looking — a quality that will come to haunt her when she is set up to take a big fall.

Zellweger is said to be playing a shrewd and mercurial San Francisco venture capitalist whose towering successes and meticulously curated public persona is the result of a searing devotion to her unapologetic post-feminist doctrine — not to mention the title of her best-selling book, At Any Cost. Levy and Blake Jenner are reportedly playing the newlyweds. The cast includes Keith Powers, Samantha Ware, Juan Castano and Saamer Usmani.

Pineda’s credits include TBS’ The Detour, The CW’s The Originals and NBC’s American Odyssey. She has an upcoming Blumhouse feature for Universal in the works. She’s repped by UTA and Kirsten Ames.

Mike Kelley, who created ABC’s Revenge and CBS’ Swingtown, came up with the idea for What/If and will serve as showrunner and write the series. Kelley will executive produce alongside Page Fright’s Melissa Loy, Atlas Entertainment’s Alex Gartner and Charles Roven, and Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke of Compari Entertainment. Jackie Levine of Compari will serve as co-exec producer.
